About
I’d like to welcome you to my blog, I am Tom Scholes-Fogg (TSF), I am a Labour party activist, young politico and blogger. I am currently the Youth Officer for Blackley and Broughton CLP, and Manchester City Labour Party. I am also the Policy Officer for Manchester Young Labour.
Politics is what makes us what we are. I am often asked why I am so passionate about politics. People often say to me ‘politicians are in it for themselves’. When people say this to me, I ask them to tell me something that is wrong with the UK, anything at all.
More often than not they give me responses such as immigration, the economy, public services, the price of fuel or alcohol, or levels of crime. I say that is why I believe in the politics of change, that is why I am proud to be a member of the Labour Party. Labour is constantly working to improve the day to day lives of the British people and I am proud to be a member of a political party that tackles those difficult issues whilst upholding values of equality and social justice. That is why I am Labour.
In my role as policy officer, I work alongside Labour’s members and partners to get people more involved in their local communities. The next generation of the electorate needs to be introduced to politics as a force for change, what it is about and what Labour as a party is about. People need to be made aware of a range of issues such as climate change, the importance of education, and the importance of voting.
I have always had an interest in politics, I first became interested in politics by doing impressions, and it went from there. I started to pay attention to what politicians were saying, and it was then that I realised the power of politics and what it can bring.
I have been a member of the Labour party for a few years. I think it is important that young people in particular become interested in politics, because politics is what controls who we are and indeed what we do. I have quite a few ‘political hero’s’ such as Clem Attlee, Tony Benn, Nye Bevan and Neil Kinnock. I would like to also add Gordon Brown to that category also, a man who i have an awful lot of respect for, and who was one of this countries best ever Chancellor’s for ten years.
My interests outside of politics are cooking, walking, history, family history, current affairs, and socialising with friends.
