Labour

The Labour party is a democratic socialist party, which was founded in 1900. Ever since 1900 the Labour party has been a party aimed at representing the many rather than the privileged few. Labour is about speaking up for those who are unable to have their voice heard, and about being there for those who need a helping hand from the state.

The Labour party has numerous achievements, from creating the national minimum wage and child trust funds to the first sure start centres and the NHS. There is no doubt Labour did work in government, and as a progressive opposition in Westminster, we will continue to speak up for the many and scrutinise the coalition government and hold them to account.

As the Labour party elects a new leader, the deputy leader of the Labour party Rt Hon Harriet Harman Q.C M.P is acting leader. To join the thousands of people who have joined the Labour party, simply click on the ‘Join Labour’ button to the right of this screen.

Labour has only been in government for four short periods of the 20th century. However its achievements have revolutionised the lives of the British people. The values Labour stands for today are those which have guided it throughout its existence.

• social justice
• strong community and strong values
• reward for hard work
• decency
• rights matched by responsibilities
